What are specialty drugs?
Some specialty prescription medications require special handling, administration or monitoring. These drugs are used to treat complex, chronic and, often, costly conditions. Specialty prescription coverage is based on your health plan benefit. If you're not sure whether you've been prescribed a specialty drug, you can find out by checking your drug list or logging in to myWellmark® Secure Site.
Note: Depending upon administration (physician-administered or self-administered), your plan will determine which benefit (medical coverage or pharmacy coverage) will cover the medication. Please call the number on the back of your ID card to verify coverage, or for clarification on your benefits.
Filling a specialty drug prescription
Depending on your plan’s benefits, you may be required to use a specific preferred specialty pharmacy, typically CVS and Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions, in order for benefits to apply. Log in to myWellmark Secure Site and check your coverage documents to know which preferred specialty pharmacy is covered by your plan.
The enrollment process for new patients is simple. When your health care provider submits your specialty prescription, you will either be contacted by the pharmacy or you will need to call them. Your provider will have a good idea of if you should reach out to the pharmacy first or if you can wait for the pharmacy to call you.
The pharmacy will thoroughly advise you on how to receive your prescription. In most cases, you can receive your specialty prescription in the mail. Get started with a specialty pharmacy:

Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions
Register to enroll External Link or call Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions at . Once you are enrolled, you can make arrangements to get your first order delivered via mail. You can also ask your doctor to call in a prescription. A Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions representative will contact you for delivery arrangements once your prescription is ready.
