State-based network

Consider a state-based network if your employees live throughout Iowa.

A great thing about plans available on the Wellmark Blue HMOSM Network is the accessibility. Your employees have access to 100 percent of hospitals and 97 percent of doctors in all of Iowa's 99 counties, as well as in Iowa's bordering counties.2 Employees are also covered if they're out-of-network in case of emergency and accidental injury situations.

State-based network

If your employees live in Iowa and would like out-of-network protection, consider a state and national network.

New in 2020, point-of-service (POS) plans provide a network option for groups who prefer the lower cost of the state-based HMO network, but would like protection from out-of-network costs.

Plans available on the Wellmark Blue POSSM Network offer your employees network flexibility by providing in-network coverage from local doctors and hospitals that members know and trust, while allowing out-of-network coverage from participating doctors at a higher cost-share.

National network

Consider a preferred provider organization (PPO) if your employees travel frequently for business or pleasure and are more likely to need medical care out-of-state. The Wellmark Blue PPOSSM network provides access to more than 96 percent of hospitals and 95 percent of doctors throughout the country.3
