These convenient, make-ahead oats boast a nourishing, instant breakfast that isn’t the same-old packet of brown sugar oatmeal.
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 1⅔ cup steel-cut oats
- Pinch of salt

Prep work: In a medium saucepan, bring the oats, water and salt to a boil. Simmer for three minutes, then remove from heat. Let stand, uncovered, at room temperature for about 10–20 minutes. Pour about 2/3 cup of oats into six pint-sized mason jars with lids. Allow to cool, then seal and refrigerate overnight. Store for up to a week in the refrigerator.
To prepare: Take the cap off one jar and stir the oatmeal. Microwave for two to three minutes, or until hot. Then, add a teaspoon or more of additional milk or water until you reach your preferred consistency. Add desired toppings.
Serve
Top with fresh berries, sliced almonds, granola and cinnamon.
