Young Women’s Resource Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
We asked some of our local business customers why they choose Wellmark for their health coverage. Here's the story of the nonprofit organization, Young Women’s Resource Center.
For the young mother who needs access to food so she can care for her toddler — and herself. For the scared 18-year-old who isn’t sure how to leave an abusive partner. For the pregnant high schooler who thinks dropping out of school is her only option. These stories are just part of the reason why Louise Rosenfeld started the Young Women’s Resource Center (YWRC) in 1978 — and why the center is still going strong today.
Serving the Des Moines community, YWRC is a nonprofit that supports, educates and advocates for girls and young women* ages 10-21. Not only do they help these young women through some of the toughest times of their lives — they also provide a shoulder to lean on, guide them on how to make good decisions, and offer programming that helps them build their confidence, self-esteem and more.
Making these young women feel safe while empowering them to reach their full potential is more than a job for those who work there — it’s a calling. A calling that involves doing everything they can to change lives for the better. Making a difference for the young women in her community is especially important to YWRC Communications Director Erin Moran. “Working with my community at a closer level means a lot to me,” said Moran. And by the positive feedback the center receives, it’s clear the young women they serve love knowing they have someone on their side.
Choosing a health insurance provider with shared values
Just like the Young Women’s Resource Center takes care of everyone who comes through their door, it’s also important to them that they take care of their 15 employees. Part of that means listening to their employees’ health insurance needs and including them in the yearly benefits decision.
Time and again, YWRC employees choose Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “I hear positive feedback about Wellmark from my coworkers,” said Kari Zimmerman, YWRC executive director. “Their response with claims is much better than any insurance provider we’ve had.” Moran adds, “Besides fast claims, it’s the ease of use. It’s such an easy company to work with.”
The Young Women’s Resource Center knows that providing the right support can make all the difference in someone’s life. So, it makes sense that when it comes to their health insurance, they choose a company that feels the same way.
