Supporting employee mental and physical health

Wellmark can help

At The Helpline Center External Link in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a sign hanging on the wall reads, “I would personally like to thank the person who answered my call the other night. She saved my life.”

The Helpline Center provides South Dakotans with community resources, volunteer opportunities and perhaps most crucially, 24/7 support for mental health, substance use and suicide crises. As the only accredited suicide center in the state, every employee at the Helpline center plays an important role in the work they do.

Supporting employee health

Because of the nature of their work, The Helpline Center prioritizes mental health in the workplace. The team uses physical activity to keep themselves mentally healthy by participating in a workplace running club and going for walks on their lunch breaks.

In addition, mental health coverage is a top priority for The Helpline Center when choosing a group health insurance provider. The team needs to ensure they are mentally healthy themselves so they can continue to help those experiencing mental health crises.
