2021–2022 Marvin Pomerantz Graduate Student Scholarship Winner Announced
DES MOINES, IA – Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield announced that Jesse Weiss, RN-BSN, is the recipient of the 2021–2022 Marvin Pomerantz Graduate Student Scholarship.
Weiss is a May 2020 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Nursing's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and is now enrolled in the college's PhD program. Since joining the program, Weiss has appeared as first author on two publications, presented a poster at the 2021 Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) annual conference, and written a policy brief published with the UI Public Policy Center.
Weiss is also a staff nurse in the post-anesthesia care unit at Mercy-Iowa City and is a graduate research assistant.
"The scholarship will help a lot with charges related to publishing articles and [presenting at] MNRS 2022," said Weiss. "It will also help with extra expenses such as textbooks, university fees, and miscellaneous costs related to the PhD program."
Wellmark established the Marvin Pomerantz Graduate Student Scholarship fund in 2008 to honor the memory of former board member Marvin A. Pomerantz. The annual scholarship supports one or more deserving graduate students at the University of Iowa College of Nursing.
