DES MOINES, IA – In an effort to thank essential healthcare workers and offer them a weekend of respite, the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, with support from Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, will provide free access to health providers Friday, June 18 to Sunday, June 20 during regular business hours (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).

Broadlawns Medical Center, MercyOne, The Iowa Clinic and UnityPoint Health will receive complimentary Botanical Garden tickets to distribute to employees to visit free of charge during Essential Workers Weekend.

"The resolve of our community has been tested in profound ways over the past year and a half. Yet, essential health care workers have shown up to selflessly serve time and time again," said Laura Jackson, Wellmark's chief health officer. "This weekend is a small token of our appreciation for all they've done and continue to do. We thank each and every employee for their service and are honored to sponsor the Essential Workers Weekend at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden."

Essential Workers who visit the garden between June 18 and June 20 will be eligible to win a free one-year membership to the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Visitors are asked to share photos on social media, tagging @dmbotanicalgarden and @wellmarkbcbs to enter the contest.
