Iowa nonprofit organizations received more than $1.8 million from The Wellmark Foundation
DES MOINES, IA — Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa employees helped build stronger communities by sharing their time, talents and gifts through The Wellmark Foundation’s BlueCare GivingSM program. Employees logged nearly 38,000 volunteer hours to a variety of qualified nonprofit organizations. The Wellmark Foundation matched these efforts resulting in contributions of more than $1.8 million to nonprofit organizations across the state.
“The Wellmark Foundation’s monetary support and volunteer time provided by Wellmark employees, has helped provide a safe and healthy learning environment for our students,” said Danny Koss, Perkins Elementary Principal. “Their generosity has allowed us to purchase and install new playground equipment as well as purchase musical instruments to challenge our students physically, academically and socially while supporting our mission to develop healthy habits for our students.”
Through the BluesCare Giving program, Wellmark employees who volunteer their time have the opportunity to choose a nonprofit organization to be the recipient of matching gifts from The Wellmark Foundation. More than 570 organizations throughout Iowa received funding this year.
