Wellmark's Brown named 2015 Deloitte CFO of the Year by the Des Moines Business Record
DES MOINES, Iowa – David Brown, chief financial officer and executive vice president at Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, has been selected by the Des Moines Business Record as the 2015 Deloitte CFO of the Year. The annual award honors an individual for outstanding performance in their role as company financial steward, significant achievement and success within their profession, as well as their personal and professional reputation showing high ethical standards.
“David is a wise counselor, a standard bearer of integrity and civility, and is one of our most respected leaders,” Marci Chickering, Wellmark executive vice president, people and process, said in her nomination letter. “He is steadfast in his commitment to doing the right thing for our employees, members and the community.”
Brown joined Wellmark in 2011 and played an integral role in helping the company navigate the then uncharted waters of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). He also helped develop a transformational cost savings target for Wellmark over three years. Brown also played a key role in a historical land swap that allowed the Riverfront YMCA to relocate to its newly remodeled facility.
“David is a vital part of Wellmark’s operations and has certainly been responsible for many of the company’s successes,” wrote Suku Radia, president and CEO of Bankers Trust Co., in his nomination letter. “He is a genuine and smart leader who subscribes to the concept of leadership on a daily basis.”
Prior to joining Wellmark, Brown spent 12 years with Capital One Financial Corp., where he led the finance function for Capital One’s domestic credit card business. He started his career in public accounting with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
