Lori A. Clausen President, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Dakota
Lori Clausen is a graduate of Western Iowa Technical College and participated and completed the Corporate Breakthrough Leadership at Harvard Business Publishing. Clausen is licensed in all lines of insurance in both Iowa and South Dakota and is certified in Long-Term Care and a Certified Insurance Counselor. She obtained her Chartered Life Underwriter and Registered Employee Benefit Consultant certification from The American College of Financial Services at Bryn Mawr.
As president of Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Dakota, Clausen is responsible for developing and fostering strong business, member and community relationships by promoting Wellmark's brand and image across the state. This will encompass involvement in community relations, policy and regulatory issues, new business development activities and managing relationships with customers. Clausen also will work closely and provide direct leadership to the South Dakota sales team and informal leadership to the business operations with accountability for daily management and execution.
Clausen has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining Wellmark, Clausen served as area vice president for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. She has extensive senior management and sales experience and was involved in mergers and acquisitions, serving as area president for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. and agency principal for Grandy Pratt Co. During her tenure with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., some of her many accomplishments included growing annual branch revenue more than 600 percent, delivering proactive strategies to navigate the ever-changing insurance landscape, and leading and inspiring her team of employees.
Clausen is a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Planners. Locally, she is a member of the Sioux Falls Downtown Rotary and is a member of the Sales and Marketing Executives of South Dakota.
