John T. (J.T.) Clendenin Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer

John T. ("J.T.") Clendenin is the executive vice president and chief legal officer for Wellmark. He is responsible for leading all legal, audit, corporate governance, and enterprise risk management functions of Wellmark, Inc. and its subsidiary companies. In his role, J.T. provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure Wellmark's Legal, Audit and Enterprise Risk Management departments work in close alignment with the business, providing objective legal services for the benefit of Wellmark members and stakeholders, and supporting Wellmark's strategic business priorities.

J.T. brings substantial insurance and leadership experience to Wellmark, gained over the course of his nearly 20-year career with Nyemaster Goode, P.C. Prior to joining Wellmark in 2017, he represented health insurance companies, including Wellmark, in both individual and class action litigation, and other life insurance and annuity companies nationwide in highly complex and multifaceted commercial litigation, corporate transactions and regulatory and compliance matters.

J.T. received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his Juris Doctor with honors from Drake University.
