Dr. Naim Munir Vice President, Chief Medical Officer

As Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Naim Munir leads Wellmark's mission to improve health outcomes for members. This work requires close partnerships with our network, product, and analytic teams to transform health care in Iowa and South Dakota. Dr. Munir directs the staff and programs of Wellmark's clinical operations, including health services, pharmacy services and medical director teams.

Dr. Munir collaborates with the health care providers in Wellmark's network to evaluate developments in medical care and make recommendations for covering new practices and procedures. He also advises on matters of public health and on medical and pharmacy trends. His extensive knowledge and expertise will advance Wellmark's strategies and initiatives to improve the health of our members and communities.

In addition, he is an accomplished speaker, regularly selected to serve on committees and boards throughout his career to improve the health care system and demonstrates the value of lifelong learning. This commitment can be seen through his participation in the IDEO University's Insights for Design Thinking Innovation and by his 10 years of previous service as a physician reviewer for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and appointment to NCQA's national oversight committee.

Dr. Munir holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
