Marci Chickering has more than 20 years' experience working in the human resources (HR) field. She joined Wellmark in 2003 and served in multiple HR roles prior to her 2009 appointment to senior vice president – human resources.

In her current role, Marci uses her strengths and expertise to ensure Wellmark retains, attracts and develops mission-driven talent committed to making health care better for Iowans and South Dakotans.

In addition to HR, Marci’s had the opportunity to lead Wellmark’s process excellence team (2012-2017) and customer service function (2016-2017).

Prior to her Wellmark career, Marci held leadership positions with The Principal Financial Group, COVA (Met Life) and Advent Enterprises Inc. (now Job Point).

Marci is currently a member of the Greater Des Moines Partnership Talent Development Board, The Conference Board Chief Human Resources Officers Council, StandOut Client Advisory Board, Gallup’s CHRO Roundtable and Principal Client Advisory Council. Previous board affiliations include Prevent Child Abuse Iowa, University of Iowa's REACH Advisory Board, GlobalFit and Partnership for Drug Free Iowa/Face It Together.

Marci received her bachelor's degree in management from the University of Northern Iowa and earned her master's in business administration with an emphasis in human resources from the University of Iowa.
