A native of Iowa, Valerie holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in marketing from Iowa State University.


Valerie serves as vice president of Business Compliance and Market Implementation. She has been instrumental in supporting Wellmark’s transition into the changing health care landscape with health care reform (ACA), collaborated to create a comprehensive product portfolio, and continuously improved processes in order to ensure compliance with the new regulations introduced by the ACA. In addition, she represents Wellmark on a variety of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association governance committees and national workgroups.

Valerie joined Wellmark in 2005 and has served in multiple roles within marketing including director of marketing programs, director of small group and senior segment manager for Medicare and U65. Prior to Wellmark, Valerie worked for Pillsbury, Tone Brothers Inc., and has experience in a variety of sales, marketing and product development roles. Valerie is on the board of Des Moines University’s MHA program and Prairie Ridge Church.
