Giving Back

To date, funding from the Wellmark 3-Point Play at Drake University has resulted in new and improved park experiences in central Iowa.

Most recently, funding was used to build more than two miles of soft surface nature trails in Des Moines' Ewing Park. These trails are constructed of compacted dirt and are designed to blend with and be sensitive to the surrounding environment, providing for a more intimate experience with nature.

This is the first phase of nearly eight miles of nature trails planned for the park. Additional funding from Wellmark and support from the Central Iowa Trail Association will allow for much of the system to be completed over the next two years.

Previous funding provided for the installation of several new and innovative pieces of recreational equipment in Des Moines area parks, including the first ADA-accessible outdoor adult exercise equipment in central Iowa at Evergreen Park.

The new fitness equipment, made possible through the Wellmark 3-Point Play, will help users improve balance and coordination as well as increase agility with low resistance while promoting fun, social interaction, and working to prevent obesity.

Since 2010, Wellmark has donated nearly $80,000 to Iowa health projects in partnership with the Drake Bulldogs.
