TRAINING PLANS
by Randy Brich, Wellmark Tour de Oahe Coordinator

Training to do an approximate 68-mile bike ride can be daunting. However, a commitment to getting in shape combined with a robust training plan can be the difference between agony and a smile on your face at the end of the ride.

So that all Wellmark Tour de Oahe riders have an understanding regarding training expectations, we have put together the following suggested training program as the minimum believed necessary to have an enjoyable 68-mile ride. This program has been adapted from 8-Weeks To A Metric Century (62 miles).

68-Mile to the End of the Pavement and Back

35-Mile Spin up Hwy 1806 and Back

20-Mile Dam Loop

Follow the first four weeks of this schedule. For the "long ride" stick to the shorter end of the suggested time frame.

If you are not currently engaged in a demanding aerobic exercise regimen, consult your personal physician before beginning this or any other training program.
