Specialty Drugs

Specialty drugs are high-cost drugs used to treat complex or rare conditions including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis C, and hemophilia. The drugs are often self-injected or administered in a physician’s office or through home health services.

Specialty pharmacies specialize in the delivery and clinical management of specialty drugs. Caremark Specialty Pharmacy is Wellmark’s preferred specialty pharmacy provider. By using Caremark Specialty Pharmacy Services for your injectable, oral, and inhalant specialty drugs, you will also receive the following value-added services at no extra cost while at the same time, maximizing benefit dollars.

  • Education and wellness programs that provide information, materials, and ongoing support to help you manage your health
  • Complete insurance billing, including coordination of benefits for lower out-of-pocket costs and virtually no paperwork
  • Timely, accurate, and free courier delivery of medications, often with next day delivery
  • Supplies, including syringes, alcohol swabs, and sharps kits, if required

See your benefits certificate, coverage manual, or policy for more information about your specialty drug coverage or call Customer Service using the phone number on the front of your Wellmark ID card.
