Vaccines at Pharmacy

Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield now provides pharmacy benefits when you receive flu and pneumococcal vaccines at the pharmacy if you have coverage for those vaccines as part of your health benefits.

Here’s what you need to know to get a flu shot from a pharmacy:
  • Cost share is based on your pharmacy benefits; you will be required to pay your Tier 2 copayment/coinsurance
  • You will pay your cost share at the pharmacy when receiving the flu shot
  • Not all pharmacies offer this service; only pharmacies that employ a pharmacist who is certified to administer vaccines can offer this service
  • Hours that vaccines are available may be different than the normal pharmacy hours; call and ask when you can receive vaccines
  • Use a network or contracting pharmacy; otherwise, you will have to pay for the flu shot, submit a paper claim, and wait for reimbursement – review a list of network pharmacies that can administer vaccines (pdf)
  • You may need a prescription from a medical provider; check with the pharmacy
  • If your pharmacy is not listed, let them know you are interested in this service
