BlueCard® Worldwide
Carry Your ID Card Abroad, and Well Take Care of the Rest
Carry your Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield ID card when you travel or live outside the
United States, and you will have peace of mind knowing your health care benefits travel
with you. You can use your ID card to receive covered inpatient health care at
participating hospitals in many countries around the world.
BlueCard Worldwide participating hospitals are located in major travel destinations and
business centers around the world. When youre traveling or living outside the United
States and require inpatient hospital care, show your ID card to any of these
participating hospitals, and your claim will be handled just like it is at home.
You still have the choice of using a non-participating hospital; however, you may have
to pay the hospital directly and then file a claim with Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue
Shield for reimbursement of covered expenses.
When youre traveling or living outside the U.S. and require inpatient hospital
care, all you need to do is follow these steps:
- Remember to carry your Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield ID card.
- Call 1-800-810-BLUE to identify BlueCard Worldwide participating hospitals,
or visit the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Associations website
at BlueCard
Doctor & Hospital Finder to search for a provider on the web.
(You can use the toll-free number outside of the U.S. by using an
AT&T Direct® Access Number.)
- Go to the nearest participating hospital in your international location and present your
ID card.
- Call Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield for precertification, where necessary. Refer to
the phone number on your ID card.
- You will only need to pay for out-of-pocket expenses (non-covered services, deductible,
copayment and coinsurance). Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield will take care of the rest
and will send an Explanation of Benefits report to your home.
- Download the International Claim form in English
or Spanish.
