Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa Earns URAC Accreditation for Utilization Management Processes

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been granted full accreditation for its utilization management processes under URAC’s Health Utilization Management Standards. URAC (www.urac.org), an independent, nonprofit organization, is well-known as a leader in promoting health care quality through its accreditation and certification programs.

Wellmark is the first organization in Iowa and 17^th in the nation to become URAC accredited. The accreditation is effective until March 2009.
