Wellmark Drug List ChangesFourteen drugs will be moving from Tier 2 to Tier 3 on the Wellmark Drug List on January 1, 2009. Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield is moving 12 medications from Tier 2 to Tier 3 on the Wellmark Drug List because generic equivalents are now available. In addition, two drugs that do not have generic equivalents, Caduet and three strengths of Lipitor—10mg, 20mg, and 40mg—are moving from Tier 2 to Tier 3. Generic Equivalents Available Wellmark is moving the following brand-name medications from Tier 2 to Tier 3 because generic equivalents (also known as an AB-rated generic) are now available. The pharmacist can make the change; no new prescription is needed. By moving to the generic, members may be able to save on their out-of-pocket costs.
*Members not notified about drug tier change because the drug is for acute use. **A generic equivalent is a medication that contains the same active ingredient at the same dose and formulation as the brand name drug. A generic equivalent may not be available for all strengths. Drugs Moving To Tier 3 That Do Not Have a Generic Equivalent In addition, two drugs are moving to Tier 3 that do not have a generic equivalent. Caduet and Lipitor (10mg, 20mg, and 40mg) will be on Tier 3 of the Wellmark Drug List effective January 1, 2009. |
