Wellmark's New Community Wellness Program Can Help Small Businesses Build a Healthy Workplace

Earlier this year, Wellmark unveiled Whole Health Dimensions, a suite of health and wellness programs that are built into all of Wellmark’s small business plans.

Now Wellmark is offering a new Whole Health Dimensions service for small employers – The Community Wellness Program. The Community Wellness Program is a grassroots effort by Wellmark to help small businesses improve employee health and productivity. Nine Community Wellness Coordinators will work with companies on a regional basis to communicate health information, encourage healthy lifestyles, and raise awareness of wellness resources available throughout the community.

Many of the resources will be listed at www.wellmark.com. You can look up wellness events now by going to the online Community Wellness Calendar. Also online is a new Community Resource Guide, a listing of local wellness resources for healthy eating, physical activity, smoking cessation, and disease screening.

Wellness Workshops
Because of the volume of small business groups, the initial approach with the Community Wellness Program is to offer a series of workshops to show small employers how to implement a wellness program. Building a Healthy Workplace: Ready, Set, Go is an information-packed, two-hour session that covers the basics of worksite wellness and the wellness resources available through Wellmark health plans and in the community. Participants will come away with all the programming and promotional materials needed to begin wellness activities at their workplace. To date, 12 workshops are scheduled through the end of the year with more dates being added.

Here is How You Can Get Involved
You have a unique opportunity to add value and strengthen your small business relationships with the Whole Health Dimensions Community Wellness Program. Here is how you can get started:

  1. 1. Attend a wellness workshop with your small business customers. Please register by calling (877) 464-0415, or visit the Community Wellness Calendar on the Broker section at www.wellmark.com, and select your region. Please Note: If you are registering on behalf of a customer as well as yourself, each person needs to register individually.
  2. 2. Use these marketing materials to invite your customers to a workshop:
    • Building a Healthy Workplace: Ready, Set, Go highlight sheet (P-4101) describes the workshop and lists workshop dates and locations.
    • Employer Workshop August Dates Flyer (P-4002) promotes workshop dates for August.
Download or order print-on-demand copies of these pieces from the Sales Toolkit. Additional marketing materials are in development that you can use to share information about the Community Wellness Program with your customers.

Watch Blue Briefings for the availability of these pieces, as well as more information on the Community Wellness Program.

Wellmark Outreach to Small Business Groups
In late July, Wellmark will begin to inform groups about the Community Wellness Program and encourage them to attend the workshops. This outreach includes direct mail invitations, public relations, and articles in the News From Blue employer newsletter.

Your Response to Questions About the Community Wellness Program
If your small business customers ask you about the Community Wellness Program or the upcoming workshops from these communications, please reinforce the value of workplace wellness and encourage them to register for a workshop. It is just one more way you can add value to their Wellmark health insurance purchase, and position yourself as their trusted health insurance advisor.
