How can you judge the quality of a health plan? One reliable and
recognized method is its HEDIS® (Health Plan Employer
Data and Information Set) results.
In 2005, Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa was a top five regional plan for overall Effectiveness of Care for the fourth straight year. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and U.S. News & World Report have collaborated to rank the nation's health plans. Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa ranked in the top third of 257 commercial health plans nationwide. The ranking is based on performance in four major categories: access to care, overall member satisfaction, prevention and treatment. Overall, Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa's scores have improved at a consistent and steady pace, indicating that long-term health behavior changes are being made. Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa improved in 10 out of 20 Effectiveness of Care measures. Two new measures were introduced and data was collected in 2005.
