Robert Richard has served as the administrator/chief
executive officer of Buchanan County Health Center, formerly People’s
Memorial Hospital of Buchanan County in Independence, Iowa, since
1976.
Richard received his nursing diploma in 1966 from the Finley School
of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa, and his bachelor’s degree from
the University of Dubuque. He also completed the graduate program
in hospital and health administration at the University of Iowa.
Richard is the recipient of many prestigious awards, including
the 2000 Service to the Community Award from the University of
Dubuque, the Chairperson Award from the Institute for Quality Healthcare
at the University of Iowa, the SHIP’s Wheel Award for Excellence
in Leadership from the Iowa Hospital Association, and a special
award for humanitarian service in 1981 from the Iowa Hospital Association
for his volunteer work at the Khmer Refugee Camp and Hospital in
Thailand in 1980.
He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives,
the Iowa Hospital Association, and the American Hospital Association.
