The Wellmark Foundation is a non-profit foundation that seeks to improve the health of Iowans, South Dakotans and their communities. The Foundation provides support to non-profit organizations and public entities to help local communities establish or expand health initiatives.

Current funding priorities of the Foundation focus on prevention with these two specific areas:

  • Childhood obesity prevention
  • Community-based wellness and prevention.

In 2014, two grant opportunities are available that support healthier communities across Iowa and South Dakota:

These two opportunities support the same type of community projects, just at different levels and approaches.

  • The Healthy Communities small grant program supports smaller projects under $25,000, that address environmental factors as well as social and economic conditions of a community that affect health.
  • The MATCH program is a challenge grant designed to bring other funders/funding to the table to support larger community health projects needing potentially higher levels of funding and/or collaboration.

Detailed information on each of the grant programs is included in the Request for Proposals.
