Providers can participate in Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Dakota provider networks through one of two contracting mechanisms.

1. Contract through a group when all providers bill under one common group billing number. Typically when a provider contracts through a group, this organization “owns” the agreement with Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Dakota. The organization is accountable to facilitate the contracting portion of the enrollment process with Wellmark for their members.

2. Providers may contract directly with Wellmark as individuals and, as such, the individual provider “owns” the agreement with Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Dakota. Please review the Provider Contracts for specific information regarding the different contracting mechanisms.

In order to participate in Wellmark's networks, the physician must sign the appropriate agreement(s). If you are a hospital-based provider, review this information to determine if signing agreements is necessary.
