Walgreens Mail Service Changes

Walgreens Mail Service prescription fulfillment is moving from Oregon to Arizona effective Friday, July 13. Your employees who are currently using Walgreens Mail Service received a postcard explaining the new process, along with the following information:

Existing Prescriptions
Please note that a new prescription is not needed; existing prescriptions will transfer from Portland to the Phoenix facility.  Prescriptions accidentally sent to the Portland facility after July 13 will automatically be forwarded to the Phoenix facility.

Wellmark Now Offers $5 Million Lifetime Maximum

Effective immediately, Wellmark will offer $5 million Lifetime Maximum (LTM) as the standard option for groups with 101+ employees.  This new option brings greater flexibility to your plan design and allows you to offer more coverage to your employees.  While $5 million will now be the standard option, you will still have the option to choose the LTM you prefer.

Introducing Chiropractic Care Planning

Beginning with date of service September 30, 2007, Wellmark will implement a chiropractic care planning process for our Alliance SelectSM product that will provide your employees and their chiropractic doctors with a clearer picture of Wellmark coverage early in the course of treatment. With this new process, Wellmark participating chiropractic doctors will submit a Chiropractic Care Plan to Wellmark, outlining the anticipated course of treatment for the condition or symptom. When the Care Plan with information about the condition being treated is submitted, your employee and his or her chiropractic doctor will receive written notification verifying whether or not the anticipated services meet Wellmark’s medical necessity guidelines, a coverage requirement.

At this time, the new care planning process is not applicable to Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa products, which include Blue Advantage®, Blue Access®, and Blue Choice® because these products have different requirements or benefits from standard Wellmark member policies and benefit certificates.

If you have employees that regularly utilize chiropractic services, please make them aware of this new process. The care planning process does not change member benefits. Medical necessity has always been, and continues to be, a contract requirement.

Revised Enrollment and Administrative Guide Now Available

The Large Group (101+) Enrollment and Administrative Guide has been revised with an effective date of 7/1/2007. The guide and update summary listing content changes since the last version, are posted on the Employer section of www.wellmark.com. The guide includes information on:
  • Eligibility requirement for your employees
  • Adding and removing employees and dependents
  • Renewing your group for the upcoming year
  • Paying your bill
  • Availability of products for large group customers, including HSAs

Change in Membership and Enrollment Applications

In an effort to make doing business with Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield easier – as well as control costs – effective July 1, we are reducing the number of Membership and Enrollment applications. As a result, the following applications are available for large groups:

Used only for MEWAs

This change is being made due to the increasing number of members that are enrolling and maintaining membership records electronically.  In addition, it is more efficient to have a “global” application, rather than one specific to products offered by particular groups, (i.e., health only, health and dental, health and life). The Large Group Administrative and Enrollment guide has been updated to reflect this change.

Notice of our Information Privacy Policies and Practices is in compliance with The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999. Wellmark is obligated to protect the security and confidentiality of personal financial and health information, and prior to this act, had already established strict policies and procedures regarding this issue.

Please Note: The Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA) requires that Notice of Mastectomy-Related Benefits be given to all plan Participants upon enrollment and annually following enrollment in the plan. This form satisfies the requirements of the annual notice.
