Training Opportunities - South Dakota

Below are the training dates identified for 2008. Make sure you visit this page frequently as updates are possible.

New Agent Training
Medicare Certification and Training

New Agent Training

New agent training will cover the basics of small group and individual health products, including CMS compliance standards for Part D and Medicare Advantage.

Sessions available are as follows: (Note: Breakfast & lunch provided both days)

Day 1
Registration: 8:00 a.m.–8:30 a.m.
Small Group (Course 01-8276C, 3 CECs): 8:30–11:45 a.m.
Under 65 Individual Health Products (Course 01-8240C, 4 CECs): 12:30–4:45 p.m.

Day 2
Registration: 8:00 a.m.–8:30 a.m.
Over 65 Products, Part D and Medicare Advantage (Course 01-8241C, 4 CECs): 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

To obtain the discount, mention that you are affiliated with Wellmark when you call to make a reservation.

All newly appointed agents with Wellmark must attend New Agent Training within 90 days of appointment. Agents are only required to attend training for their appropriate appointment:

  • Agents appointed for small group sales are only required to attend the Small Group session
  • Agents appointed for individual sales are only required to attend the Under 65 and Over 65 sessions

Prerequisites

  • Register for Wellmark.com – All new agents must register to use the secured agent information found on Wellmark.com. Registration is required prior to attending new agent training sessions so that you are familiar with tools that are available for you. Learn more about how to become a registered agent.
  • MedicareBlue Rx & PPO Online Training – Agents selling individual products must also take the online MedicareBlue Rx and PPO course and pass each section with 80% or greater. You will need to bring your completion certificate to the new agent training. Follow these instructions to complete the online course.

To register, e-mail your name, agent number, writing agency and date you will be attending to Stefany Martinsen or call (605) 373-7428 or (800) 245-5750. Seating is limited, so register early to reserve your spot.

Medicare Certification and Training

Wellmark is responsible for ensuring all agents selling MedicareBlueSM Rx and MedicareBlueSM PPO coverage follow the Medicare Marketing Guidelines as established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

MedicareBlue Rx and MedicareBlue PPO — Creditable Production
All agents must be certified (or re-certified) prior to October 1, 2007 to begin marketing and/or selling MedicareBlue Rx and MedicareBlue PPO products.

Medicare Certification and Training (for 2008 products)

Taking the 2008 MedicareBlue Online Training Course

Wellmark will register each appointed agent and set-up their log in information. To take the course, each agent will need to log in to Brainshark and complete the following steps:

  1. Complete online Brainshark "system check"
  2. Access Brainshark to complete the online training
  3. Log in
    • User Name: Agent’s National Producer Number (NPN)
    • Temporary Password: Wellmark + agent’s NPN (example: wellmark999999) all in lowercase letters
  4. Change your password
  5. Verify e-mail address
    • Click on My Profile
    • Verify and edit personal information
  6. Complete course
  7. Print certificate for your records

 Passing or Failing a Course

At the end of each training course, there will be a "Conclusion" slide. This slide tells you what your next step is.

  • If you have met all required completion criteria, this course is now "Complete" and you will be able to access the next required course in your certification curriculum.
    • If you have not met all required completion criteria, you must re-take this course.
  • To close this course and return to your curriculum page, click the "X" in the top right corner of your window.
  • Refresh your curriculum page to update your course status and follow the written instructions provided to you to either continue the certification or log out of the system.

Until you have completed all the courses, your "Current Enrollments" page will identify the Full or Recertification Curriculum for which you’ve been enrolled, and will show the status of all the courses in that curriculum. The curriculum will only move to the "Prior Enrollments" page upon full completion of all the required courses.
