Blue Advantage^®

Blue Advantage is an affordable health product to meet your clients' employee benefit needs and their small business needs. This primary care product offers employers attractive rates without compromising health care coverage.

How It Works
Blue Advantage uses the Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa (WHPI) network for premium savings and cost-effective care. Employees and their family members each designate a primary care provider (PCP) from the WHPI network. Females may also choose an OB/GYN.

The PCP provides and coordinates most health care needs, including routine exams and hospitalization, and will make referrals inside the WHPI network for specialist care. This is a network-only plan, so there is no out-of-network coverage except in an emergency or urgent care situation.

Key Selling Points

• Affordable premiums. Blue Advantage's managed care approach allows employers to offer more affordable coverage, while still providing employees with a comprehensive health plan.
• Network strength. The Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa network includes 96 percent of hospitals and 88 percent of physicians in Iowa.
• Coverage anywhere via Blue Card. If employees need emergency care away from home, they're covered by the Blue Card network, with more than 6,000 hospitals and 635,000 doctors worldwide.
