The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association estimates that fraud costs
Americans $1 of every $7 spent on health care. That is why Blue Plans
across the country are working diligently to identify and block fraudulent
claims. For example:
- Wellmark’s Special Investigation Unit found and prevented over
$2 million worth of attempted fraud in 2003.
- Those responsible for fraudulent activities were turned over to the
appropriate authorities.
