How to Request Sponsorships

Generally, an organization should only submit one sponsorship request per calendar year.  Organizations seeking sponsorship for a specific event should contact Wellmark Community Relations staff no less than six months prior to the event date.

Sponsorship Request Checklist
Application Cover Letter

-Organization name and complete mailing address

-Contact name, phone and fax number and e-mail address

Background:
  -Brief history of organization
  -Goals and objective of organization
  -Geographic scope of organization
  -List of Board of Directors, including business affiliations and ties to any other civic or cultural organizations or events
Describe the Sponsorship Opportunity
  -Brief history of event
  -Goal and objectives including estimated cost of event
  -Target audience
  -Three-year attendance history and audience demographic profile
  -Date, time, location
  -Cost to attend/participate
  -Include samples of marketing and collateral materials from previous years
  -Sponsorship fee
  -Any other costs to sponsors
  -Detailed sponsor list benefits
  -Expected results from sponsorship
  -Sponsorship deadlines
Describe the Sponsorship Field
  -Number of sponsors desired
  -Sponsorship categories-types of sponsorships packages
  -Degree of category exclusivity
  -Media sponsors secured and/or approached for the event
  -List other organizations being approached for sponsorship and anticipated levels of participation
  -Sponsorship commitments to date

Sponsorship Exclusions and Limitations
Generally, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield will not provide sponsorship support for:

Political campaigns, candidates, parties or partisan activities

Sectarian, denominational or religious organizations in support of theological functions

Labor or fraternal groups
Fund-raising events if more than 20 percent of funds raised are directed toward administrative, operating or fund-raising expenses
Goodwill advertising in benefit publications
Fund-raising events if more than 20 percent of funds raised are directed toward administrative, operating or fund-raising expenses
Goodwill advertising in benefit publications
Individual K-12 schools
Programs outside Iowa or South Dakota
Individuals

Program Guidelines

All requests must be in writing.

Required information must be provided 

Requests should be submitted well in advance of needs.
Organizations may only submit one request per calendar year which must address all types of support requested from Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield for the calendar year:

-Corporate contributions
-Sponsorships
-In-kind donations
-Leader involvement as a fund-raising chair

An employee's involvement in a non-profit organization does not guarantee endorsement of or financial support from Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, use of its company resources, or access to its employees to generate funds or support an event or cause.
