Are you preparing for an upcoming procedure and want to understand your out-of-pocket costs? Do you want to compare quality of a provider or a facility?
Get answers to your questions with the new “Cost and Quality Tools” widget on myWellmark.
The “Cost and Quality Tools” widget provides you with a range of total medical cost estimates for 100 of the most common medical treatments and conditions.
You can choose a treatment category, select a ZIP code and find facilities that offer the selected treatment, along with estimated cost ranges. The cost estimates are listed as a range, such as $1,500 – $2,100, and display bundled service and facility charges that are typically a standard part of a procedure or treatment.

The Cost and Quality widget also links to tools you can use to research quality providers and facilities:
Collaboration on Quality®. This initiative recognizes and rewards physicians who provide care that meets or exceeds national guidelines. More than 1,800 primary care providers in Iowa and South Dakota participate. Look for the Collaboration on Quality (CoQ) logo by your physician’s name in the online Wellmark provider directory.
Blue Distinction®. Certain conditions require special equipment and providers with extensive experience. Blue Distinction is a designation awarded by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield to high-performing medical facilities in certain areas, including bariatric surgery, cardiac care, complex and rare cancers, knee and hip replacement, spine surgery and transplants.
