Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Quality Plus Program

Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa, Inc. was an "early adopter" of NCQA's new Care Management and Health Improvement (CHI) standards. These new standards are part of NCQA's Quality Plus program, which allows NCQA-Accredited plans to pursue additional distinction in selected areas by meeting tough new standards before they become mandatory. Wellmark has been awarded the status of "Distinction" for this set of Quality Plus Standards.

NCQA describes Quality Plus as its bridge to the accreditation programs of the future. The Care Management and Health Improvement standards look specifically at how an organization manages chronic conditions and targets treatment and interventions to individuals, including healthy ones, based on their unique needs. Standards in this area focus on: Wellness and prevention Disease management Complex case management
