To improve our response time to the outpatient diagnostic imaging preauthorization requests, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield will discontinue the fax option for submitting these requests beginning January 1, 2012.

Instead, submit requests using secure tools on Wellmark.com or via telephone. 

The fax option is not as responsive to your input, which can result in a request for additional information.

Internet Requests

Online imaging order submission is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It’s an easy-to-use secure tool for submitting exam orders and checking on the status of open requests.

Telephone Requests

Requests can also be submitted via telephone. Call toll-free at 888‑800‑4497, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. (CT) to submit a request or to verify that an order number has been issued.
