Wellmark recently updated three of its Health Maintenance guidelines. These are assistive tools for providers that list the appropriate preventive screenings and tests based on age and gender.

These are guidelines for care, not a guarantee of Wellmark coverage. Depending on the member’s policy, all or some of these preventive services may be covered with or without a member cost share.

Wellmark has four preventive care guidelines:

• Pediatric Immunization  Schedule  (updated April 2011)
• Pediatric Preventive Health Guideline  (updated October 2011)
• Prenatal Care Schedule  (updated October 2011)
• Adult Preventive Health Guideline  (updated October 2011)

The guidelines have been a combination of recommendations from the medical literature and reputable medical sources and are reviewed annually. Changes this year include recommendations from Health Care Reform, which endorses A & B recommendations from the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), Bright Futures, Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practices (ACIP) and  Health Resources Services Administration (HSRA).
