Help Yourself Stay Hydrated
As temperatures rise, it becomes increasingly important to stay hydrated. Most nutritionists agree adults should drink 64 ounces of water or other non-caffeinated beverages per day.
If you’re bored with plain water or just need motivation to drink up, start here:
- Create your own flavored water with fruit slices. Try lemon, lime, or orange slices, or add a splash of fruit juice to your water.
- Eat five to nine servings of fruit and vegetables per day. In addition to providing essential vitamins and minerals, fruits and veggies are an often-overlooked source of water.
- Make water part of your daily routine. For example, have a cup when you wake up, before your meals or snacks, before and after a workout, and whenever you can fit it into your day.
- Purchase the perfect water bottle for your lifestyle. Keep it with you wherever you go.
- Limit your intake of caffeinated, artificially sweetened, and alcoholic beverages. They can rob your body of fluids and contribute to dehydration.
- Watch your intake of “fitness” waters, juices, sweetened teas, and other beverages. They don’t necessarily provide nutritional benefits, and these drinks can be packed with calories. Always read the labels to determine serving size, calories, and nutrition benefits.
