The Blue Basics, Blue Value, and Blue Select Basics Blue Rx Preferred plans offer generic drug coverage only (Tier 1 drugs on the Wellmark Drug List) with certain exceptions. We will cover brand-name drugs for the following items:

Blue Basics (Iowa plan)

• Insulin and insulin-related supplies
• Contraceptives (if you select the optional benefit and pay the applicable monthly premium)
• Routine immunizations

Blue Value (Iowa Farm Bureau plan)

• Insulin and insulin-related supplies
• Contraceptives
• Routine immunizations
• Oral chemotherapy drugs

Blue Select Basics (South Dakota plan)

• Insulin and insulin-related supplies
• Contraceptives (if you select the optional benefit and pay the applicable monthly premium)
• Routine immunizations

Please ask your doctor to prescribe generic drugs. You will be responsible for the entire cost of all brand-name prescription drugs (other than the exceptions listed above). When searching for a brand-name drug, Tier 1 alternatives will be highlighted in yellow in your search results. Also look for the Tier 1 designation in your search results.
