Because of this, Wellmark has implemented Step Therapy programs on certain classes of medication to encourage the use of safe and effective lower-cost alternatives before "stepping up" to medications that are either more expensive or less effective/safe.
Please refer to the Prior Authorization/Step Therapy List  to determine which drugs require step therapy. You may also find this information within the Wellmark Drug List when you look up a specific drug, under the limitation button.
