When to Go to the Emergency Room

Use the Emergency Room for true emergencies. Please see your regular doctor or go to an urgent care or walk-in clinic for health problems that are not emergencies. Use this list of symptoms as a general guide for when to go to the Emergency Room:

  • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
  • Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure
  • Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
  • Changes in vision
  • Confusion or changes in mental status
  • Any sudden or severe pain
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Coughing or vomiting blood
  • Suicidal feelings
  • Difficulty speaking
