Health Plan Ratings Wondering how your health plan measures up? The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Accreditation Program and HEDIS® (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) are two methods that measure health plan quality.

NCQA Accreditation Program

NCQA, an independent organization dedicated to improving health care quality, rates health plans on the following five measures:

• Access and service
• Qualified providers
• Staying healthy
• Getting better
• Living with an illness

Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa has received an Excellent Accreditation rating, the highest level available.

At this time, Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield PPO plans are not reviewed.

HEDIS

A measurement tool used by more than 90 percent of America's health plans, HEDIS evaluates a health plan's performance on:

• Effectiveness of care
• Member satisfaction
• Access and availability of care
• Use of services.
