Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield announced today it has made the WebMD Health Services wellness platform available to Wellmark customers. The services will help employers foster workplace cultures that promote wellness and healthy lifestyles, and help individuals make healthy changes that last.
Wellmark is teaming with WebMD, the most trusted brand and a leading provider of health and benefits management, to offer a best-in-class wellness solution that blends the principles of behavioral science and consumer marketing to inspire people to live healthy, productive lives. Wellmark customers will be able to take advantage of the same platform many large U.S. companies use to successfully “bend the trend” and improve health outcomes.
“With 75 percent of health costs being attributed to lifestyle-related risks, the opportunity with wellness for employers is big, but so is the challenge,” says Laura Jackson, Wellmark executive vice president. “We’re bringing to our marketplace some of the most innovative technology in wellness that has been shown to successfully engage people in making positive change.”
The core component of the WebMD offering is a personalized wellness center on myWellmark.com that helps users define what’s important, discover what motivates them, and take meaningful actions to improve their health and well-being. The site integrates behavioral science and consumer marketing technology so healthier habits become permanent. This helps individuals achieve measurable behavior change.
WebMD’s technology makes setting up a wellness program easy and fast, and it provides the flexibility to configure the program to fit the culture of the organization and its strategic aims. Employers can customize a program with wellness (biometric) screenings, telephonic and online health coaching and incentive programs. Wellmark health management consultants will help employers design and deliver a strategic approach to wellness, drawing on the WebMD solution set, as well as other Wellmark programs and community resources. Each program will have measurable goals and objectives, and provide employers a dashboard to track key measures.
“Working with large employers across the country, WebMD Health Services creates personalized, relevant content to better engage employees in actively taking responsibility for their health, improving lifestyle behaviors and worksite productivity, while ultimately driving the costs of health care lower for all constituents,” says Mark Emkjer, chief executive officer, WebMD Health Services.
“Keeping people healthy holds the most promise for improving the value of health care over the longer term,” says Wellmark’s Jackson. “We’re excited to team with WebMD to bring to Iowa and South Dakota residents and employers a comprehensive set of wellness initiatives that affect the behavior change necessary for health improvement and lowering costs.”
