Wellmark® Blue Cross® and Blue Shield® is proud to announce that MedicareBlueSM Rx (PDP), a Medicare prescription drug plan covering nearly 300,000 members, received the highest, five-star rating for the third consecutive year. The top industry rating awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) represents a comprehensive assessment of health plan performance and quality.
“Having access to an affordable, high quality product throughout the year is an incredible opportunity for Medicare beneficiaries,” said Deborah Madson, CEO of the Northern Plains Alliance, the alliance of six independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in seven states that offer MedicareBlue Rx. “We are delighted to achieve this exceptional performance for the third year in a row.”
MedicareBlue Rx was one of only four Medicare Part D prescription drug plans in the United States to receive five-out-of-five stars for 2013, and is the only five-star plan in the seven-state region. Additionally, it is the only plan in the nation to achieve the top rating every year since CMS began awarding stars in 2011.
The Star Rating system is designed to provide consumers with additional information to help them choose Medicare coverage from among the plans offered in their area. Plans are rated on the results of several quality measures, such as access to care, responsiveness and customer satisfaction. Each plan receives a score for its overall performance, which is a measure of a plan’s overall quality. Plans with five stars represent “excellent performance.”
Wellmark Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing George Hanna, said he is proud of the ongoing excellence of the MedicareBlue Rx product, demonstrated by receiving the 5-star rating. “This is a prestigious recognition for Wellmark, and we remain focused on our members, providers and communities,” Hanna said. “We are honored to receive this outstanding quality rating from CMS for the third consecutive year.”
All scores are posted online at www.Medicare.gov and are released to coincide with Medicare’s annual open enrollment period, which runs from October 15 to December 7.
