Des Moines, Iowa — Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has appointed Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Chief Information Officer Tim Peterson to the State of Iowa Technical Advisory Council (TAC). Tim is one of two public members. The council is charged with maximizing the value of state government information technology for Iowa’s citizens.
Peterson joined Wellmark in November of 2011. As executive vice president and CIO, he is responsible for Wellmark’s Business Technology Services division, which includes oversight of application development, data warehousing, enterprise architecture, infrastructure, security, enterprise program/project management, business planning and analysis, and quality assurance.
Prior to joining Wellmark, Peterson spent nearly 12 years at UnitedHealth Group, where he was most recently CIO for its OptumHealth Care Solutions business. He also held other leadership roles across UnitedHealth Group within the areas of enterprise data and analytics strategy, global IT operations/ infrastructure, and information security. He earned his MBA from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management.
Peterson holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) designations.
