DES MOINES, Iowa (June 22, 2012) – Vermillion skateboarders and ice skaters will have a new venue in 2012 thanks to funds raised from each three-pointer made by the University of South Dakota (USD) Coyotes during the 2011-12 football and basketball seasons.
Wellmark's 3-Point Play made a donation to the Vermillion Parks and Recreation department for each field goal made during the Coyotes' 2011 football season, and each three-point basket during both the men’s and women’s 2011-12 basketball seasons. In total, $12,780 has been raised through the program to date.
"We’ve wanted a skateboard park for a while but funding wasn’t available," said David Nelson, director, Vermillion Parks and Recreation. "With Wellmark’s contribution, we can meet the needs of our youth as well as update the ice rink for skaters and hockey players."
Wellmark will continue to make a donation to the Vermillion City Parks and Recreation department for each field goal and three-point basket made during the 2012-13 USD sports season. Five other Division I universities in Iowa and South Dakota are part of the 3-Point Play program.
