Older Iowans and South Dakotans, people with certain disabilities and their families can now tap into AskBlue Medicare, a simple, interactive tool available from Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield to help people eligible for Medicare better understand their options.
AskBlue Medicare, available on www.wellmark.com, guides users through the basics of Medicare, including eligibility, and discusses the different options available to people with Medicare, such as Medicare Advantage, Part D, and Medicare Supplement plans, and outlines items to consider when making a choice among available options. AskBlue Medicare also provides easy-to-understand definitions for common Medicare terms and offers resources for those who want to learn more.
“AskBlue Medicare is an added critical resource to help our aging population understand Medicare and choose the best option for each person with Medicare,” says Pranav Mehta, Wellmark’s vice president of health products. “This new resource is another example of Wellmark’s strong commitment to a healthcare system that provides healthcare coverage to all Americans.”
Medicare, the federal health insurance program created in 1965 for people ages 65 and older and the disabled, provides coverage for 48 million Americans. The number of people in Medicare has more than doubled since 1996, and is projected to grow to 79 million enrollees by 2030.
AskBlue Medicare is the latest in a suite of interactive tools developed by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), to help consumers understand their healthcare options. AskBlue, was launched in June 2009 to help individuals who are uninsured, unemployed, have lost their employer-based coverage, or are not eligible for group benefits find individual coverage options that fit their personal needs and budget.
