Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa has added Des Moines County to the growing number of Iowa counties in its coverage area for small group health insurance.

Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa, an Iowa-licensed health maintenance organization (HMO) offers coverage in areas where members have access to sufficient numbers, and appropriate types of health care providers, without having to travel too far from home.

“Wellmark’s managed care plans offer excellent coverage at an affordable price by emphasizing the primary care physician as the starting point for health care” says Marcia Stark, director of HMO programs and community health.

Managed care products also use the Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa network, which includes 99 percent of Iowa hospitals – including Great River Medical Center in Burlington – and 94 percent of Iowa physicians.
