ABERDEEN, SD – Avera St. Luke's Hospital offers wellness screening services to employers in their home community.
According to Donna Hurley, Project Specialist with Avera St. Luke's Business Health, there are many options for on-site wellness screening and programming for businesses in northeastern South Dakota.
Avera St. Luke's Hospital offers on-site wellness screenings which can include any/all of the following components: blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), measurements of waist-hip ratio, body composition, grip strength, lumbar flexibility, lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, trig), glucose, and smoking/tobacco habits. Their team of trained healthcare professionals can also provide group education on screening results, or private consultation with individuals during or after the health screening. Screenings can be tailored to meet the needs of the business and their employees.
In addition to health screening services, there are other services available for businesses wellness programming. Some examples include: CPR/First Aid training, flu shots, on-site educational presentations on topics such as heart-healthy eating, weight management, and educational displays or e-newsletters on various health topics.
“The biggest fear many employers have is that employees won’t take advantage of the preventive services offered through their health plan,” says Troy Henrich, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield community wellness coordinator. “Bringing the service into the workplace dramatically increases participation, and that’s the first step in creating a healthier workforce.”
