Wellmark's Des Moines Headquarters Earns Top Green Status, Lowers Costs
Wellmark's 852,200 square-foot downtown Des Moines headquarters meets four key company goals:
Environmentally responsible. In March 2011 the building earned LEED® Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This is the first Platinum-certified office building of its size in the world.
Saves money. We moved from five rented buildings to one building we own. This long-term investment should pay for itself in 10 years and will save money for our members in the future.
Improves productivity. The building offers employee-friendly features such as natural lighting and good air quality. This healthy indoor environment helps increase employee satisfaction and improves productivity. And with all Des Moines employees in one building, workflow and communication gains are a natural by-product.
Promotes employee wellness. A new gym, cafeteria with healthy choices, and ergonomic work stations are all designed to keep employees healthy. That should mean lower health insurance costs for Wellmark's employees, with resulting savings passed along to our members.
