Platinum Well Workplace Award Originally received in 2005; recertified in 2008 & 2012 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield The Platinum Well Workplace Award from the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) is WELCOA’s highest designation granted only to organizations that have previously achieved a Gold Wellness Workplace designation and are now linking health promotion objectives to business outcomes. Honorable Mention in the Claims Adjudication category at the Call Center and Member Touchpoint Metrics Conference 2011 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa Wellmark received one of only two awards presented in the Claims Adjudication category.  Wellmark received Honorable Mention with our submission of Using Macros to Drive Claims Processing Results.  Within the first year, Wellmark’s use of macros in claims processing achieved savings equal to 15 FTEs equating to over $750,000.  Wellmark was recognized in front of over 30 other BCBS Plans as an innovative leader to find costs efficiencies in claims processing.

Platinum Level LEED Certification for New Construction 2011 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council; our 852,200 sq. ft. building and underground parking structure is the only single commercial building of its size in the world to receive Platinum certification using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for New Construction rating system.
America’s Best Health Plan  2010 Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa was named one of America’s Best Health Plans for 2010-2011. The ranking of accredited commercial managed care plans in America, published jointly by U.S. News & World Report and the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA), ranked Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa in the top 35 percent (79 out of 227) of accredited commercial managed care plans. Rankings are based on clinical quality, member satisfaction and NCQA accreditation scores. In particular, Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa received high marks for assuring its members received appropriate asthma medications and treatment, comprehensive diabetes care, timely childhood immunizations, and appropriate antidepressant medication management.
Best Health Insurance Provider - Des Moines Business Record 2010 (14th consecutive year) Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa Voted by the readers of the Des Moines Business Record; 14th consecutive year WBCBSI has received this recognition.
Best of Health Insurance by The Local Best 2010 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Dakota  The Local Best is an independent company who mailed 67,000 postcards to Sioux Falls residents to complete an online survey. Nearly 3,000 people completed the “highly controlled” survey.
Federal Employees Plan (FEP) Case Management Full Accredition 2010 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Full accreditation awarded by URAC for the FEP case management program.
Federal Employees Plan (FEP) Plan Excellence Award 2010 (also received in 2007, 2005, & 2004) Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield One of 13 Plans to be recognized with a PMF/PIP score of 111 and a Plan ranking of 5th.  To receive this award, both the Service Profile Score and the Strategic Profile Score have to be 100 or above.  Achieving these results requires a great deal of corporate team work, constant customer focus, and attention to positive business results.

2009 Economic Impact Award 2009 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Awarded by the Greater Des Moines Partnership as part of its Celebrate Business Awards; highlights the impact of a company on the local economy in terms of job creation, capital investment and facility expansion.

Better Business Bureau Integrity Award 2009 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa This award “recognized those companies whose business practices and related activities in the community exemplify the highest standards of business ethics and conduct,” according to the Better Business Bureau.
Federal Employees Plan (FEP) Service  Excellence Award 2009 (also received in 2008 and 2006) Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Award for our service provided to FEP members.  The Service Award honors Blue Cross Plans that excel in claims timeliness, timeliness and accuracy in resolving customer and provider inquiries, timeliness and accuracy in resolving appeals, timeliness in initiating refunds, and telephone responsiveness.
 
 
Inter-Plan Programs Steering Committee Strategy Award 2009 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield  Inter-Plan Programs (IPP) tie to all aspects of business within Wellmark. To achieve companywide understanding and buy in on current and future initiatives, an Inter-Plan Programs steering committee and Inter-Plan Technical Steering committee were formed.  These committees have members from all key areas in the company and focuses on IPP initiatives and impacts.
Patriotic Employer Award and Above & Beyond Award 2009 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Two awards from The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve.
Richard L Guffey Award 2009 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield This award was presented to Vicki Signor.  It recognizes the individual who  demonstrated the most significant leadership and support of Inter-Plan business.
2008 Brand Excellence Award for Member Retention 2008 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Dakota  Presented at the March 2009 Association Board of Directors meeting.
Health Plan Performance - J.D. Power 2008 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa has been ranked Highest in Customer Satisfaction in the Heartland region, one of the more competitive regions in the nation, by J.D. Power and Associates National Health Insurance Plan Study in 2008. Now in its second year, the study measures member satisfaction among 107 health plans in 17 regions throughout the U.S. by examining seven key factors: coverage and benefits; choice of doctors, hospitals and pharmacies; information and communication; approval processes; claims processing; insurance statements; and customer service.
Operational Excellence Award - Plan of the Day 2008 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Wellmark implemented a “Plan of the Day” (POD) to help claims examiner guide them in prioritizing their daily work. This plan efficiently reduced overall Home and Host inventories and positively impacted Wellmark’s end-to-end timeliness.
Operational Excellence, Honorable Mention - Coordination of Benefits Redesign 2008 Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Wellmark’s prior COB process was in conflict with the changes made in 2008
in preparation for the COB redesign effective Jan. 1, 2009. The COB process
moves “Other Insurance” requirements to the beginning of the process and
integrates technology to eliminate the need for the COB questionnaire by
requiring member input at the time of enrollment.
