Our Culture

Our employees make a difference. Wellmark employees share a passion for the health of our members and our communities. We're looking to transform health care by creating a system that is sustainable for years to come. By working with stakeholders across Iowa and South Dakota to improve the health of our members and the delivery of care, we believe that we will measurably reduce the rate of increase of future health care costs. All while continuing to offer flexible benefit designs, competitive prices, a vast provider network, and exceptional service to our members.

At Wellmark, health and wellness is at the core of what we do and who we are. Wellmark's culture of health will encourage and empower you on your wellness journey. When it comes to improving the health of the communities we serve, we believe that 'It Starts With Us.'

Here are just a few of the ways Wellmark is committed to employee health and wellness:

  • A state-of-the-art fitness center that features the latest equipment, dozens of classes and free personal training.
  • An onsite cafeteria, convenience store and vending machines are stocked with healthy options.
  • tobacco-free workplace

Diversity and inclusion are part of our core values, and are vital to our business and our long-term success. We are all different. Recognizing, respecting, and maximizing these differences provides us a competitive advantage. Diversity of experiences, ideas, cultures, and beliefs drives us to achieve and creates an environment of innovation, connectivity and commitment. To see what this means to Wellmark, watch the Diversity and Inclusion video.

We give back to the communities where we live, work and play. Employees are encouraged to help better our communities with their gifts of time, talent and resources through a program called BluesCareSM Giving. For every 24 hours the employee volunteers, the employee can designate $1,000 to the qualifying nonprofit of his or her choice. The Wellmark Foundation also matches employees' personal contributions dollar-for-dollar to eligible nonprofit organizations.
